An ear net can be used with a horse for various reasons. Nowadays the most common reason is that it is simply fun to use an ear net in the same color as the cover. Originally, the ear net is not directly intended as a fashion item, but to protect the ears. By using an ear net, the horse is less affected by flies and other insects that buzz around the ears. This gives a lot more rest for some horses. A horse that suffers from buzzing insects around the ears tends to shake their head. As a result, the rider and horse both lose concentration while driving.
